“A Universe of Stories” is the theme of Rodman Public Library’s 2019 Adult, Teens, and Children’s Summer Reading Program that begins on Tuesday, May 28, and runs through Saturday, August 3. The adult program is open to ages 18 and older. Adults may sign up for Summer Reading at the front desk of the Main or Branch Libraries and Bookmobile. Any check out transaction of any library material qualifies for one ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing. Patrons may have multiple checkouts per day. A gift bag filled with a variety of goodies will be awarded to the week’s winner. A new weekly drawing starts over every week. The weekly prizes are provided courtesy of the Friends of Rodman Public Library.
The Summer Reading Program for children and teens at Rodman Library will run concurrently with the adult program. There will be programs, prizes, hands-on creative opportunities, and special events for both age groups. Participants of the children’s Summer Reading Program may sign up at the front desk of the Main Children’s Department, the Branch Library, or Bookmobile. Teens may sign up by going online at https://rodmanlibrary.beanstack.org/ or by downloading the Beanstack app.
Children who read for six hours will earn a certificate and free book, as well as credit for their school. They will have free choice of the books, magazines, audiobooks, and ebooks (ex. Tumblebooks and Axis 360) they wish to read or listen to. Completing an additional five hours of reading will earn additional tickets for prize bags.
Teens, ages 12-18, who complete three hours per week of reading will get one entry into the Summer Reading Teen Grand Prize Drawing that will consist of three baskets, each containing assorted prizes. Only one basket may be claimed by a participant. There will also be weekly online challenge questions for teens. For each correctly answered challenge question, participants will get an additional entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. Twenty hours of completed reading will earn a prize of one book of the teen’s choice from selected books offered and a themed prize.
Popular monthly adults’, children’s, and teens’ programs will continue throughout the summer. Book F.E.A.S.T. will return for six Thursdays at noon, beginning June 6. Teens will enjoy special creative events during the summer months along with the regular teen monthly programs. Prizes and special events are sponsored by Friends of Rodman Public Library.
