Teen Gaming (November 14)
Area teens, ages 12-18, are invited to Rodman Public Library every other Thursday to play their favorite video games on the Xbox One, Xbox 360 with Kinect, Playstation 4 & 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo WiiU, and Meta Quest 3. A session is planned for November 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. Visitors will have the opportunity to play a different game each week. Games with ratings from “E” for Everyone, up to “T” for Teen level, will be offered. No registration is required for these free gaming events. Teen Chopped (November 19)
November and creative food go hand in hand.
That’s why during the month that features Thanksgiving is also the month when the popular Teen Chopped is held annually inside the Rodman Public Library Auditorium.
The 2024 edition will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19.
The 2023 edition will be held Tuesday, November 14 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Teen chefs will be divided into teams of up to four members, and just like in the television show “Chopped,” they will create three courses -- appetizer, main course, and dessert – that must include certain items from provided ingredient baskets. Teens will also have the full use of the Rodman Chopped pantry that will be filled with spices and other essentials to complete their dish. A panel of three persons will then judge each round.
The event, which is supported by Friends of Rodman Public Library, is limited to 18 participants, so registration is required. Teens may sign up individually or in groups up to four persons. To register, stop by the Reference Desk or call 330-821-2665, ext. 217, or [REGISTER HERE]
Tabletop Gaming (December 11)
Tabletop Gaming, an all-ages program, will be held at the Main Library at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11. Each month a new game is featured so that patrons can learn a new game. Of course, other games available in the library’s collection will also be available and visitors are always welcome to bring their own games. The aim of the family program is to give area residents an opportunity to gather with others to play their favorite card and board games and make new friends. Light snacks will be offered and no registration is required to attend the monthly program. Although the program is open to players of all ages, children under 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Chess Club (November 20)
Every third Wednesday of every month, chess boards are set up in the auditorium at the Main Library for patrons of all ages who play and are looking for an opponent, those who sort of play and are looking to learn more about the classic game, or for those who are interested in getting started. The next Chess Club will be held Wednesday, November 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No registration is required.
Teen Nerf Night (January 2)
Teens, ages 12-18, are invited to attend Nerf Night from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2. Teens should start to assemble in the Main Library auditorium at 5:15 p.m. for the after-hours event. Participants may bring in their own Nerf weapons or use some provided by the library. The library will also provide Nerf darts. Space is limited and registration is required.
